These posters tend to be placed on buses, billboards even in cinema’s to let people know when the film will be released.

Introduction
Identify which type of trailer it is:
Teaser Trailer
A teaser trailer or teaser is a short trailer used to advertise an upcoming movie, game or television series.
Teasers, unlike typical theatrical trailers, are usually very short in length (between 30–60 seconds) and usually contain little, if any, actual footage from the film. Sometimes, it is merely a shorter version of a main theatrical trailer.
They are usually released long in advance of the film they advertise. One of the reasons for the name "teaser" is because they are shown usually a long time (one or one and a half years) before the movie comes out, so as to "tease" the audience and they do not give a release date it often ends with ‘coming soon” or “June 2012”. The idea of the teaser is to create enigma so that the audience has many questions and is leave puzzled so that they will go and watch the film and have their answers to their questions answered.
Main theatrical trailer
A main trailer is usually about 2 minutes and 30 seconds in length and will include the typical code and conventions of trailers.
Main Discussion

How does the trailer start?
Before the trailer starts, a certificate by the MPAA, (America’s version of the BBFC) is shown to inform the audience of the trailer’s rating, the rating also covers the legal considerations

This is to enable parents or guardians to determine whether or not the film is appropriate for the younger views to watch as it may contain sex scenes, violence and in this horror.

 Genre

The following trailer is taking place within the family home which is significant as finding a stable home have been their priority as they have been unable to do so as mysterious things keep occurring; which is part of a horror convention due to the mysterious house.  the trailer also shows the unexplainable things that is happening within the families home.

Moreover, the audience can establish this through the use of the props that have been used in the trailer. In the trailer a rocking horse have been used to highlight the unusual activities that take place in the family home, as the rocking horse can be seen moving by itself without any assistant this could show that their may be a ghost riding the rocking horse highlighting the horror conventions. In addition, a ladder have been used for the same use the young boy suddenly drops from the ladder landing of the floor the mystery as to why he suddenly dropped off the ladder, special effects have also been used to create the breaking of the step of the ladder.

The use of typography is the trailer is significant because, the name of the film is mixed around to form a new word and meaning e.g. ‘Is Insidious’ this emphasises the meaning of the film which means cunning and treacherous; therefore reinforcing the meaning throughout the film.

Narrative and characters

The significant moments that have been chosen in the trailer are the main parts of the film. The editor has purposely put little shots of these scenes as he dose not want to give away to much of the plot of the film, as well as wanting to engage the characters and persuade them to go and watch the film when it has been released. The star vehicles that have be shown in this teaser are figured to be the main characters of the film although they are not big film stars the have still be shown. The plot has been given through the different scenes and the dialogue. In Torodov’s theory he says that a film should have 3 parts to it. The equilibrium, disequilibrium and the new equilibrium. However in a teaser trailer we only find the first two equilibrium and disequilibrium because they don’t tell us the ending to the film because the audience is suppose to go watch that at the cinema for them to find out all the answers to their questions from the trailer. They are left in suspense after watching the trailer. Also some of Claude Levi-Strauss says that all narratives have to driven forward by the conflict and the series of opposite forces and he called this the theory of Binary Opposition and it is used to describe how each main force in a narrative has its equal and opposite. So if theirs light there should be darkness, if theirs and antagonist there should be a protagonist.

The enigma
Enigma is to leave the audience puzzled with many questions and problems in their heads that need to be solved and this will only happen if the go and watch the movie. This is the whole point of the teaser trailer as it is suppose to leave the audience in suspense and anxious and this should persuade them to go and watch the film.

Accolades/Reviews

Although there are no major accolades include in the film trailer, a link is made between the film Saw and Insidious, the audience is informed that the director of both films is the same.

Editing and Camera Shots
The editor has taken many shots from different scenes that will capture the audience’s attention and he has put them all together. his done this to create excitement as well as tension and suspense because all these clips are from different scenes and they don’t link. So it leaves the audience in suspense and will have persuaded them to go and watch the film. Different camera shots have been used over the shoulder shot to emphasise the dialogue between characters. Also the cut shot has been the common shot used to put all these scenes together, as well as using the low angle and high angle shots to show different scenes that have been shot at different angles. Not much action is involved because its more of a psychological horror film, but there is one specific scene that is shown in the child’s bedroom. Throughout the teaser there lighting has been changed in some parts its really dark to create the mood and the atmosphere as most horror films have a convention of using dark colours to enhance the dark atmosphere the director wants to create.

Sound
Diegetic and non-diegetic sound have been used in the trailer, non-diegetic sound can be heard a start of the trailer s a scratching and squeaking sound can be heard also a ticking sound can be heard through the use of a metronome. Moreover, the use of the repetitive sound of the ticking creates a beat within the audience’s mind creating a steady pace in the trailer. Also, the sound of the step of the ladder can be heard cracking and breaking this creates anxiety can well as making the scene seem realistic. As well as a sound of a crying baby can be heard in he background this makes the audience curious and worried as to why the baby is crying. Towards the end of the end of the trailer as the tension and excitement emerges dramatic music can be heard in the background to add empathises to the while trailer.

In addition, this is combined with dialogue that can be heard in the background this enables the audience to have an understanding of the character’s lives through their discussions as well as revealing the plot to the audience. In parts of the trailer sound have not be used, this is done to create suspense and enhance the mysterious atmosphere.

Audience Research

Pearl & Dean
From our results we collected we gathered that "Scream" and "Paranormal Activity" were the most common films that had been watched. From accessing Pearl and Dean we were able to gather information regarding each film. Both films were given a rating of 15 years and above.

By our research on Scream we found that there were no sexual scenes but there was use of strong language such as "f--k" and "s--t" and scenes of kissing. In contrast in Paranormal Activity leaves a psychological effect as the viewers immagination creates the effects they experience.

Overall to achieve a target audience of 15+ we decide to make a psychological and horror which makes our film hybrid. The psychological is the phone and the video she views on the phone as it leaves her in a state of panic and agitation. The horror is the knife as it shows explicit violence as the knife represents danger and aggression

Target Audience Research & Video

Through the use of carrying out this interview, we gathered the reasons as to why horror films are certified 15+. Due to the use of characters , props and the pace of the film. Younger viewers find it uncomfortable and frightening to watch the horror films by themselves. In addition this supports our decision to give our trailer the certification of viewers aged 15years and above.

Planning Our Trailer

By planning our main trailer through the use of brainstorming this enabled us to cover the concepts needed for a trailer such as setting , lighting and location. Our first brain storm shows our list of ideas that we were considering for our main trailer. Once this was completed and we discussed the appropriate things that is needed in a trailer we created our final plan.We then developed this into  a story board and a working script.

Story Board

Our story board was created from the development of our mind maps both the draft and the final plan to put together a step-by-step sequence of what scenes our trailer will have. During the course of our planning and organisation we received constructive criticism regarding our initial ideas which brought about the decision to change and develop the plot of our trailer.

Working Script

Our working script shows the actions, expression and dialogue of the characters taking part in our trailer. This also includes all the other relevant information that has not been included in our story board. As well as changing our story board we had to change our working script as the information in the first story board was not relevant to our final story board due to criticism and feedback.

Film Poster & Magazine Planning
In our planning for for our teaser trailer we also had to make a magazine front cover and a poster. We did research by doing a questionnaire which covered a range of questions regarding how a horror film magazine should be presented. This enabled us to be able to meet the correct criteria for our magazine. We also looked at a range of magazines as well as film posters. This aloud us to be able to know which information is suppose to be on both the magazine and poster. Example - Magazine should have bar codes , Website and many attractions that will get the target audience attention to persuade them to buy it. A poster has to be eye catching and appealing so when the film comes out the they will go watch it.
